Do you want to run away from the stress surrounding you?
Do you want to observe peace within you?
If yes, then find a peaceful corner in the house, grab a book and start reading.
Sounds interesting right? Wait for what! You get distracted! Well, here I have a solution for you. You will have to do only one thing throughout the day and you will see how easily you turn into an irresistible reader.
Books are known as a person’s best friend. But many people find it difficult to start a reading habit even after several trials and high desires to read. For many it’s hard to figure out what books are worth reading. Let’s find out how you can start reading the books you have enlisted into your “must read books” list.
25 minutes of uninterrupted reading
You must have heard of Pomodoro Technique. What I am going to tell you today is an applied Pomodoro Technique in small slots. It helped me regain my reading habits after an entire year’s break as I was starting the first year of my full-time teaching career. You can follow these steps to restart or perhaps start a permanent reading habit.
- Choose a time slot where you will read for a full 25 minutes of the undisturbed period.
- Keep your digital devices far away. Set an alarm of “after 25 minutes” and start reading a real physical book.
- Do this every day for straight 21 days without breaking the pattern.
- Remember to start at the same time every single day.
The alarm will help your brain do the activity with a desire of getting a reward. Skinner’s experimental and applied psychology works here!
When you consciously spend 25 minutes every day at the same time, you will observe that you gradually start snoozing your alarm everyday several times. It will happen because you are developing interest in what you are reading and want to keep yourself engaged in it. That doesn’t mean you need to change the setting of the alarm to 30 or 40 or 45 minutes. Keep it to 25 minutes only to get the long lasting result you are craving for.
So, what are you waiting for? Set the alarm, grab a book and go ahead!
Have a great “ready day” ahead!
