Speaking Up
It is one of the basic and the most important skills that one must possess. Speaking up in a discussion or debate will not only help you to build opinions but also help you in gaining confidence from within.
At times, it’s important to speak up to heal your mind and heart. Speaking up against something ethically questionable, offensive, or unacceptable is your moral responsibility as an individual.
Being Honest with yourself
“Honesty is the best quality.”
This famous statement has encouraged millions of people to bring honesty in themselves and their work. But, were they honest with themselves?
Depicting honesty to people is easy and doable. But, when it comes to being honest with yourself, people tend to take a step backward. Being honest with yourself is a moral duty that you have towards yourself. Accept your flaws and work upon them to improve and bring the best version of you.
Listening
While in a conversation, ensure that you do not interrupt the speaker. People always prefer a good listener. When you listen, nod along to let the person know that they have your attention. Do not look into your mobile phones or watch/clock during the conversation. It doesn’t present your attention. Give the person uninterrupted attention so that you can understand their opinions and why they are speaking what they are speaking.
Managing your time
You are familiar with the quote, “Time is money.”
How you spend the 24 hours of your day determines where you are going to reach in the future. Managing your time is an art. Observe your schedule and understand how much of your time you are wasting and how much you are utilizing.
Stop Whining
Stop blaming people or situations for where you stand today. Your decisions have brought you to the place where you are at present. Whining about the mishappenings or the situations around will not do any good to you.
Staying Present in the Moment
“Don’t let the past take much of your time. Don’t let the future call upon you too often. Be in the present and be present.”
When you stay in the present moment, you are effortlessly happy. You will observe that being in the present moment gives you the greatest control of things.
Professor Martin Seligman, University of Pennsylvania says that 40% of our happiness is in control of our genetics and the remaining 60% is under our control. Staying present in the moment is the key to be happy and confident.
Being Consistent
Consistency is another essential aspect that you should possess to achieve the goals you have set for yourself. Being consistent is essential to become better day by day. Success is not a destiny, it’s a process. Being consistent and determined in small steps will lead you to greater heights.
Having Empathy
Empathy means putting yourself into other people’s shoes (position). Looking at the hows, whats, and whys of what people are feeling standing on their side would give you a better perspective of life. Empathy will allow others to develop trust in you.
